MERCEDES BENZ CLASS C I 202 So your car wont go in reverse & you wonder if a transmission out of a 190E will fit

This is concerning only cars with 722.34 in our case 722.4xx transmissions or any 94-96 W202 and most likely does not apply at all for the 722.6 (97 on). So ever since I bought the car (last year with 138 000miles) when shifted in reverse I would hear a slight hissing sound and it would take 2-3sec to engage reverse gear. Once engaged it would reverse fine with no slipping. I dont know the history

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W166 2012 ML350 Steering Failure

Been on here for a year but this is my first post thought i should share. We have a 2012 ML350 steering system just failed. Luckily the car was parked. Upon start up the dash lights up with message for Power Steering Failure and sure enough the steering is completely disabled. No amount of force on the steering wheel will get it to move. Anyone else seen or heard of this on the new MLs Car has been towed to the local dealership. Ill update once I hear what the problem might be.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS C II 203 Left field question...

Of all you C203M112.xx owners who have the 722.6 automatic would any of you reconsider the purchase based on the lack of availability of a manual transmission If there were realistic (no OBD codes easily passes inspection states like California and Massachusetts documented procedures available) options available for converting your automatic 203 into a 6 speed would you do it How many of you would

I dont know exactly but my 2004 has two cables for the shifter and the 2004.5-newer is supposed to have a single shift rod. The 1-2 shift is not great on the older boxes. It should be a different ECU flash different harness perhaps a different transmission mount maybe a different driveshaft the shifter the pedal box clutch master cylinder of course the transmission maybe different center console trim.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 97 V230 - Twitchy Throttle Response (OnOff feel)

Anyone else have a V230 with a twitchy throttle By twitchy I mean that (at least in 1st & 2nd gear) it has a very on off feel...especially when pulling away from a full stop. What I think it is is an overly STIFF spring of somesort in the throttle linkage somewhere. This stiff spring makes it very difficult to modulate the throttle input softly...especially when one is in a rush to pull away. It usually

On vitos the accelerator pedal is fly by wire - theres no mechanical cable instead theres a few electrical wires coming out of the pedal. Have a look at the pedal in the footwell. You may have to take off the footwell dash cover to get a better look. The return spring will be attached to the pedal. To me it sounds like the clutch is the problem though.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS C I 202 1994 C220 transmission leak problem

Hello I just purchased a 1994 C220 with 160K miles. Unfortunately I dont have any history on it. One problem with the transmission is that it always shifts hard. Ive read here to look for vacuum leaks so far havent found any. After driving it around most of the day with no problems all of a sudden I noticed it starting to smoke a bit. I was close to home and pulled into the driveway. Behind me was

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS C I 202 C36 Power loss bogged down

Went on a long drive the other day. After an hour of driving it felt as if the car had lost some power. It was obvious when I needed to climb a hill. Car felt like engine was shaking at lower RPMs felt better and smoother once it got to higher RPMs. Engine temps were normal. No smoke of any kind. When I made it to a gas station it felt as if it would bog down and die but it kept running albeit struggling.

just looking at my old post now what i have learned is that when the engine gets way to hot the ignition is retarded quite a bit by the ecu. can then give the feeling of the being too rich with fuel (not being burned) and then feels bogged down i have drained my coolant system and filled back up with water and temp is much lower also changed the viscous coupling (fan clutch) which needed doing now

Hello Lueb Yes the vacuum tank is in the drivers front fender. These hardly ever go bad. The most common source of leaks are the door lock vacuum cells in the doors the vacuum lock cell in the trunk for the gas cap door and the trunk lock vacuum cell. The 450SLc also has a vacuum cell under each front seat to lock the seat backs when the car is in use. The sunroof has no vacuum going to it. An electric

MERCEDES BENZ 124 124 Need Fuel Pump & ac compressor & clutch

MERCEDES BENZ 190 W201 1990 190E Kickdown Solenoid Vacuum Modulator and Bowden Cable

I have a 190e 2.6L with an automatic transmission. The transmission does not appear to be upshifting. When in drive the RPMs ramp up and it only kicks down to a lower gear when I place it into low 2. I cannot detect any upshifting at all. Im am not exactly sure of what the cause is but was hoping to diagnose a couple of major components to see if they are a problem. I need info on how to test the operation

I am not an auto gearbox expert but I doubt the parts you are looking at will cause this problem. Dont mean to tell you how to suck eggs. The gearbox used hydraulic oil pressure to operate valves to engagedisengage clutches and brake bands. I would guess if its not upshifting at all you have a pressure problem or clutchbrake band failure. I would first be checking the oil level in the gearbox if that

MERCEDES BENZ 124 124 AC question

Ive have a 86 300E that has no cold air but blows i have converted it to R134a and recharged it. nothin happened i ran a wire to the compressor from the battery and poof it works cold air(till the wire melted a min later) so i know the compressor works. i cant get the car to turn the compressor on by itself so any suggestions on the next step. in the wiring diagram there is something called an N3

If you get cold air by directly sending 12V to the compressor and if the wire burnt because it was thin and was not able to carry the current then mostly it is good news. You have somehow activated the compressor cut-off mechanism. Do you have the mercedes service manual CDs for this car If yes then there is a nice section on how to test the compressor cut-off mechanism and how to fix the problems.

MERCEDES BENZ 190 W201 My official AUTO TRANS to 5-speed conversion walkthrough

Background I love my benz but I think its missing the personality of a manual transmission. Its a 92 2.3 8v with 112k miles. A few months ago I found an 87 2.3 8v with a 5-speed. It only had 74k miles the engine had some minor issue that the previous owner didnt want to deal with (a Police Chief in NJ). EDIT Wasnt a minor issue. The PO spun and slid over a nice sized rock which punctured the engine

So I drained the 5-speed. The drain plug is a 15mm HEX. Only about two-three cups of oil came out weird. Anyway I called mercedes benz of Devon (PA) and I asked the parts guy if the MB manual transmission fluid is anything special. He claimed its 75-80 weight gear oil. -Monday Ill pull the driveshaft automatic transmission pedals and shifter out of my 92 2.3. -Tuesday Ill install the new pedal cluster

meant for RVs. It sits piggybacked behind my radiator. As far as the piston goes the earlier trannies tended to have B2 (not B1) piston problem with the boot on the piston cracking or shearing off. MERCEDES BENZ SLK R170 No power

Yesterday I was driving home and the car seemed sluggish. I thought it might be the 95 degree temp and 95% humidity robbing power. Still it shouldnt have been that bad. Car seems to want to run through the gears quick and stay in 5th. 30-40 mph and Im in 5th low rpm and I have to push the peddle down over 34 of the way before it will kick down to 4th and start to pull. Its like driving my wifes minivan.

The engine is running when I tried these steps. Im not sure where to start from here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Super charger seems to be constantly on

Hi guys I have created a new post as I now have a new issue from my initial problem. Two days ago I floored the gas pedal and accelerated through a tunnel then as I started to slow I felt my car was lumpy like miss firing the power was down but I got home. I drove the car the next day and it still was miss firing. When I started to look into the fault I found it to be a faulty ignition coil I replaced

I took the car to a turbo supercharger specialist who plugged in their diagnostic. The guy served his time with mercedes so was thorough. He comfirmed that the by-pass flap was okay and made it function I had also bought another second hand one so have a spare now. What he found was that the electro magnetic that operated the clutch on the supercharger was not responding. He said that unfortuntely

Anyone have a guess on this one Thanks again.

chupper The sunroof motor has a clutch built into it which is adjustable. The reason for this is because the inner cable which runs from the motor to the roof has an outer casing with a gap in the top. If the roof jams etc the clutch will slip (which is why the motor can be heard but the roof doesnt move). This prevents the inner cable forcing its way out of its casing damaging both. Ive read all the posts I could find on manual trans conversions but I have not been able to find an answer to this question. Were does the metal fluid line from the clutch master cylinder pass through the firewall From the attached picture it looks like line 95 goes through the boot 98 which seems to pass through the front

I am basically turning into a 107043. I bought a 107043 rusted out parts car so I have the 3.5 motor that I freshened up and I am going to mate it with the manual transmission. I pulled the side cover off the transmission and everything looks good with no metal shrapnel in the case bottom. I am going to install new front and rear seals and replace the linkage lever seals. Fortunately I have a mercedes

Well it tuned out the cable

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 107 seat back release adjustment - 1976 450SL (1971-1981)

The passenger seat back on my 1976 450SL stopped responding to the release lever that allows the seat back to flip forward. Here is a quick summary of how to adjust the mechanism that releases the seat back on an early 107s (probably 1971-1981). This process is easier with the seat removed tho it could probably be done in the car. Here is a link for 107 (1971-1981) seat removal steps . After the seat

MERCEDES BENZ SLK R170 Looking at getting a pre-owned SLK. Any tips

Hey there. Newbie here with some questions. If I were to be in the market for a first gen SLK230 for some weekend fun driving what would I need to look out for Any warning signs I should be aware of Since you have had experience with this model what are prone to fail over time and what are the weak points of the model How should I evaluate the top mechanism and other electrical items that I am told

clutch engaging it may be worn. The 230s M111 engine has a variable intake cam. The mechanism can leak oil into the electrical cable system. Have the mechanic remove the front engine cover to inspect that area and the plugs therein. This sounds like a lot but overall chances are that even a very old SLK may have none or only a few of these issues. This is easily still the most reliable model mercedes
