MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Another Power Steering Recall

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Power Steering Pump Reservoir

My wifes power steering pump started whining really bad Saturday afternoon. I mean it went from no whine to whining really loudly between the time I parked it and walked in Home Depot to when I started and turned to pull out of the parking lot. I did some research on the site and found the issue with the reservoir. Lucky I searched I was this close to buying a new pump. Anyway I followed the directions

Thanks for the great pictures - worth a thousand words Seems like any failed hose pump or ps fluid leakage needs to consider a replacement reservoir just to prevent other issues later. MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Fluid Cooler leak in 98 ML320

Hi all. My 98 ML320 has a leak from the power steering fluid cooler. Its located in the front bumper area under the radiator. The fluid cooler is about 16 long and is a return tube with fins. I believe this part was only used on early 98s before being replaced with something else. Similar-sized fluid coolers go for about 25. Of course MBs list price is 309.60. The part number is apparently 163 460

that the input fittings are strangely asymmetrical. Is there any other part I can use that will match up with the MB fittings Any other alternatives other than the remarkably over-priced part I cant find anything else searching on that particular part number I searched the forum and found a similar question below that was never answered. Many thanks for any help or suggestions. Phillip httpwww.benzworld.orgforumsw163...ng-cooler.html

parts.com lists a 98 power steering oil cooler for 198.00 but oddly enough does not show a part diagram for it. Auto Parts - Parts.com For Every Part of Your Life Bottom of the page.

I olso need to know if this is fixable without replacing the entire pump or reservoir. Really any insite would be helpful i dont want to start taking things apart for no reason. Thanks

c5vette Your power steering hoseclamp just popped off of the cooler. You just need to replace the hose clamp and of course refill with fluid. When it happened to mine I tried cutting off the very end of the hose and reclamping it but it didnt last more than a day. I believe MB sent something around a while ago (which bayhas may have been referring to) regarding the power steering hose clamp needing to be replaced. If you dont want to hassle with the dealer service folks its a an easy DIY and relatively inexpensive. see link to service bulletin httpwww.benzworld.orgforumsw163...ose-clamp.html

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Power steering reservoir O-ring

Hi all Anyone got the part no. for the famous O-ring between the reservoir and the power steering pump THX

Guys also check the power steering fluid cooler hoses on the side of the radiator on the drivers side. Usually one or both of them have walked outward and can pop off any time causing you to lose all the fluid at once. Simply pushing the hose back on flush and tightening the clamp will do but sometimes the hose itself is deteriorated and all gummy. In this case I usually cut a bit of the bad portion

First there have been several MB recalls for the earlier ML models to updaye andor replace the pwoer steering lines that go into the cooler on the front - with your VIN you should talk to your MB dealer and with the VIN they will pull up the car to check to see if there are any outstandings recallscampaigns for that issue. This is the most important issue since the campaigns were based on earlier falutly

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Power Steering Advice Needed Please

Here Goes.. My power steering was making a lot of noise and leaking fluid. So I went to my local mechanic and he told me that I need to change my reservoir. I had him change the reservoir with mercedes PS fluid and it stopped the power steering fluid from leaking but the groaning noise is still there. I went back to my mechanic and he told me to change the pump in order to stop the noise. I bought

First things first. Write down the VIN of your ML and call the dealer to see if there are any outstanding recalls for power steering hoses on your car. There is air that has gotten into your system either from a leaking power steering reservoir seal or as likely from a leaking power steering hose. If no recalls inspect the hoses where they run up into the cooler for any signs of leakage. Also with

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Power Steering Problem 270CDi- Clamp Failed

Hi guys Yesterday my wife called me saying the steering wheel was so heavy and she couldnt maneuver the car. So she just left the car behind (in other words waiting for my support). Noodles Thanks for the tip. I should have thought of that approach. As it turned out I needed to get the ML repaired before Christmas due to some last minute holiday visitors so I picked up the hose repair kit yesterday at the MB dealer in Reno. I tried to get it for free under the recall (with me installing the new hose) but no dice which is understandable. Under the safety recall in the USA my dealer

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Power Steering oil question

Hello everyone I have a 1999 ML320. Recently I checked the power steering oil level. When I removed the cap to the reservoir I noticed that there was a dipstick embedded into the cap which was about two inches long. On the stick itself were measurements and these were broken down as follows Max 80C Min Max 20C Min Max 80C was closest to the cap whereas 20C Min was the end that first touches the oil

The measure of 20c and 80c represent checking the fluid level at cool vs. warm recently run temperatures. As the oil expands at warmer temperatures and is reduced at cooler temperatures. Here is how I check mine. At cool state first thing in the morning having not started or driven the car I read the min-max of the lower markings. If I have been driving I use the upper min-max markings. I would personally

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 HELP I think power steering is making noise when cold outside

I have a 2001 ML430 and love it Problem is that now that winter is here and thetemps are very cold now my benz makes a very loud humming type noise when I start it and gets louder when I crank the steering wheel in either direction. The noise seems to go away after the vehicle warms up good. Any ideas on what this might be Could it be a bad pump or maybe air in the system It didnt do this until it

The first thing that you must do is inspect the PS cooler lines (220 & 123) at the radiator for any leaks. If there is there is a RECALL on the pressure hose (123) and MB must replace the hose and clamp at their expense. If there are no leaks then I would suggest that you replace the PS reservoir and O-ring. Order the parts direct from a MB dealer or through Auto Parts - Parts.com For Every Part of

MERCEDES BENZ 124 124 Where is this power steering fluid leaking from

My 95 E300 leaks power steering fluid. I have put my hands all around the fittings local to the pump to check for leaks. It isnt leaking there so it must be oozing out somewhere else. Im guessing it goes to some pressurized housing that powers the steering motion. I dont have an idea of what this would look like or where it would be located. Could you point me in the right direction

Check the low pressure return line coming off the cooler back into the pump. This line hardens & cracks with age causing a leak that is sometimes hard to find.

My power steering pressure hose is leaking and from everything I can tell the leak is from the hose itself not either of the fittings. The leak runs from under the protective sleave and then both ways along and

i take my leaking hoses to my local auto parts store where they do hydraulic line repairs. they are usually able to salvage the metal ends and replace the rubber line. my ps hose repair was 15 a year ago and still looks new. i also had them do the trans cooler lines on my 450sel. the towing bill after blowing a line on the interstate was 235 and the hose repairs were 40.
