First of all I am a complete noob on cars... My car is 2002 ML 320 and I had a problem with the PS fluid leak before so I had it repaired. MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G Power steering fluid

I know this has been discussed before but I cannot find the post. What fluid should be used in a 96 G320 power steering if one cannot get to a mercedes dealers for their fluid

The steering box is pretty expensive. Best to take care of it properly. Are you changing the fluid or do you have a leak If changing the fluid the simplest method is to suction the tank and refill with clean fluid. Do that 2 to 3 days in a row and you will have replaced the vast majority of the fluid. No need to bleed the system or deal with foaming. Your tank probably has a filter in the bottom. The

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 Can ATF be used as power steering fluid

I just bought a bottle of Whiz ATF dexron III mercon. The instruction behind states that it can be used in the power steering system. Is this true Thank you.

Prof you too fast thank you. It seems that ATF III has many applications can we put some in the gasoline fuel tank to aid cleaning the fuel system

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 chaged power steering fluid using turkey baster method but why is still so clear

I bought a couple bottles of MB power steering fluid. After I used the turkey baster method and suctioned out all of the old power steering fluid in the reservoir I poured new fluid in. The old fluid was slightly darker than the new fluid obviouslyu. Check the level when cold and again when hot. That should have only changed about half of all the power steering fluid right I figured that I would do

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 PHOTO DIY- Power Steering Fluid Change

Ok I bet this post is WAAAAY out there on the esoteric scale. Still bear with me.... (and be honest with yourselves---- when was the last time you even CHECKED your PS fluid.....) Yes there are NO SPECIFIED intervals to change power steering fluid..... BUT there are ALSO no specified intervals for other things such as Differential Oil etc. Does this mean we should never change them Of course not Now

So how much does one of those things cost I built a vacuum device out of a portable air tank and use harbor freight venturi vacuum generator to create the vacuum. I posted a tech article here a few years ago on how I did it. And no it is not out there. I changed the PS fluid in my Corsica when it hit 100k.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 power steering

I just bought my 2000 ML430 and its making a humming sound like its the power steering pump. I was just wondering where I can find a diagram or exploded view of the engine etc pref somewhere online. Thanks

I have the same problem just bought mine last Monday. These power steering systems seem to be very temperamental and unforgiving if there is air trapped lack of spec fluid quantity and a bad set of reservoir hoses. I wsa ready to replace the pump. I took it to the dealer and the whole replacement for the pump is about 900 bucks. Except I was wrong... The dealer told me that the pump was fine and all that needed replacement was the reservoir and the hoses. There are leaks within these two that causes the pump not to get enough fluid through the system. Parts will be in on Monday and the total cost is estimated at around 200 bucks. Enjoy your benz. Its a tank. Tex

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Replacing power steering reservoir

Ive been leaking power steering fluid and was told by my mechanic that I need to replace the reservoir due to a large leak. He said he thought I would be able to do this and save myself 150. Can anyone show me a diagram on where this is and how to do it

mercedes recommends you use their power steering fluid.. I would also. You can go to the dealer and buy one bottle for about 8. You barely need 12 of that bottle to fill up the tank.

My truck is 02 ml320 need help on how to replace 0-ring and reservior and where to by the parts any pictures to do the job will be nice

This is what I suspect for you (and for many-many others) - the original o-ring has started a very slow leak and this leak over time has lowered the fluid level in your power steering reservoir..the low fluid is the cause of the cold noise (the low fluid growl will go away in a couple of min). 1) Buy one qt of MB power steering fluid at the dealer or on the internet - at the dealer the list price most

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS S IV 220 Power steering with ABC

how does one check the power steering pump level on an S600 with ABC The ring on the tank when loosened brings up a filter attached to the cover. The knob beside the cover doesnt want to come off easily. No obvious leaks. Problem dreaded BASABS message comes on after 30 sec.without car being driven. Pump is noisy and steering hard to turn - could it be because the pump runs in unloaded mode Resetting by steering wheel right & left does not work. Appreciate any suggestions

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Lubrizol Steering Fluid Additive

I got a recommendation to use this additive to get rid of groaning sound when turning left or right. Anybody has tried this How do you add this additive in ML The oil level is at MAX now so should I take away some oil and replace it with the additive in this case how much should I add How to take out the existing oil Thanks

They say on this forum it works never tried but I would if faced with the problem. As to how to do it I would take out the same amount of power steering fluid before pouring this thing in. How I would do it without getting a headache measuring the right amount Id use a perfectly clean container (something that looks like a wide mouth bottle or similar preferably glass). Empty the Lubrizol in the perfectly

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 Put MB Powersteering Fluid in Hydraulic Reservoir on W210 Wagon

Doh - I put MB powersteering fluid in the Hydraulic fluid Reservoir (in front of washer fluid reservoirs). I have a 2002 E320 wagon. I knew the reservoir was for both self levelers and steering but didnt realize it uses a different fluid than MB power steering. Anyway I figured out what I did before starting the car and siphoned all the fluid out of the tank so nothing got sucked into the system. Right

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Power steering issue 2000 ml320

Hello everyone My 2000 ML 320 (146K) was making loud noises and leaking got her up on a lift to notice that the high pressure power steering hose was rusted and busted purchased and replaced however I still have a winding noise both when I turn the wheel and start the car (not as loud as before but still there). The other issue is that the fluid cluster light appears for a bit then goes away. I opened

Not exactly sure what you mean by fluid cluster light but I would guess it is the yellow light that is an indicator of your level of coolant in the radiator. Make sure to top off the overflow tank with a 5050 mix of the proper antifreeze. I believe there also is an indicator light for the windscreen cleaning fluid. You might want to top that off with the proper fluid. The power steering on the MLs

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Stuck Power Steering High Pressure Line

I have read through all the posts on how to change the power steering pump in my 2001 ml320. Seems simple enough other than the high pressure line going into the side of the pump will not budge. I put a 17mm box wrench over it and it didnt move.....just rounded the edges a bit. Any ideas on how to get that line off Id like to save that pressure line if I can.....

Low fluid would cause it to whine. If the fluid is low it had to leak somewhere. Have you looked at the bottom of the power steering fluid tank They are common leak points.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS A I 168 Power steering- please advise

Hi guys im new on the forum so please go easy on me Anyway OK so i bought a 2001 W168 A160 recently and noticed strange power steering activity i would turn the steering wheel and notice a short burst of stiffness in the steering as if the steering dies for a second and works again and also i noticed standing still if i move the steering slightly i can hear the electric motor of the power steering

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Excessive Power Steering Leak please help

I have a 2001 ML320.. It recently started making a winding noise. Sounds almost like an electric car. I recently had a Complete Vehicle Inspection at Firestone. They basically told me the noise was from not having any power steering fluid. They suggested I replace the pump and pressure line. or power steering pump. Can anyone tell me how i go about doing this Im an 18 year old college student. And

i have the resevoir tank o ring and 2 quarts of mb power steering fluid. tell me if you want it. they are brand new bought them from allmercedes.com but i needed them earlier because we needed to take the car on a trip. i will sell you all three of those item for 30.00 dollars plus what ever shipping is. let me know if you want it.

[8D] Hi Snick I got my car back from the dealer yesterday. The leak from the steering box at the Pitman arm is gone. They rebuilt the box with new seals and O-rings. They also replaced the coolant expansion tank. Apparently that was leaking too. Since these were no-charge repairs (the car was supposed to be mechanically sound when I bought it from them in March) I dont know what the fixes are worth. BTW the loaner car was a new Jag X-Type 3 Liter sedan. What a harsh noisy bugger that thing is compared to the benz. I have to admit it does handle well. Cheers Dave

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 Power steering

Hi. My 98 E320 has is leaking power steering fluid and i cant seem to figure out where is coming from. My steering has gotten a lot harder lately. Any one have any idea what it maybe. Thank in advances.

I had a 97 E420 that was leaking from the seal right behind the pulley. It would fling fluid over to the inner fender well behind the left headlight. I thought it was the ac unit leaking. A good fellow here suggested I remove the pump replace the shaft seal behind the pulley then reinstall. The parts are in a kit available at your nearset MB parts shop. There are a few gaskets which I suggest you replace

MERCEDES BENZ 124 124 What kind of Power Steering Fluid

Should I put in my 1992 400E. Its groaning and moaning like a beast. So I was wondering what kind of power steering fluid to use. Thanks Also any idea where I could buy a Chiltons or Haynes for this car I cant come across one.

If the level was verry low you should add fluid let the car idle and wait for good 20 min. You can keep the p.s. tank open to monitor the fluid level. Good luck.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 E420 Power Steering Pump............

1997 E420. Hey all I have a small leak coming from my power steering pump. Most likely from the front seal behind the pulley. I clean it off periodically using some Purple power and high pressure water. But within a few drives the fluid starts flinging off the pulley and makes a mess. If I drive a long distance it will lose enough to start dripping from under the radiator. Not much but a few drops.

todd557 boy that sounds way too easy. So you pull the belt remove the pulley off the front of the PS pump remove the front of the pump then remove a clip and the seal is right there Man if thats the case Ill do it this weekend............ Thanks for the tip and correct part s.................... PS how much fluid do you lose doing this Does the holding tank drain to the seal level Jeff

No I didnt take any. My wife doesnt let me use her digital camera with greasy hands PS For those of you that watched this thread. The pump itself is a very simple design 3 pulley bolts and 5 pump bolts. Very simple. Located in an area which is very easy to access. No mess either once you catch the fluid which will drain out of the holding tank into a medium paper cup. There is no bearing just the seal.

MERCEDES BENZ 124 124 Did my power steering fluid filter fluid today

Used Valvoline Maxlife power steering fluid... After 2 quarts of the drain and refill method the bottom was visible and after 3 it was just a tint of red so I stopped there. Smelt pretty bad after 22 years I guess Also no need to put it back together....I kept filter and lid off and starting the car does not spill over at all it just swirls all the old fluid back around nicely so you can watch it between

Sorry my bad. What I mean to say is that I use the same hose for the expansion tank to the coolant tank inside the fender area.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 Wagon hydraulic fluid

While this has been discussed before I am still a bit confused as to the correct fluid. My 2002 4M Wagon has the normal hydraulic suspension in the rear and the common tank for the power steering and the suspension. The cap for the tank lists the fluid as 001 989 20 03 -- easy enough ..... Although .... When I first purchased this car almost three years ago with 75k on it the dealer replaced the rear

Even dealers get this one wrong since the 4matic wagon has a shared tank for the power steering and self leveling rear suspension. If you want to get that other stuff out of there it is a bit of a pain in the ass but you can bleed it from the rear of the vehicle fill and flush after a run and then fill again. To be honest with you Id leave it alone. Once it feels like you ran somebody over every time you hit a bump you will need to replace your accumulators and that would be a good time to bleed it all out. The dealer will charge you an arm and a leg for this exact same fluid in the same bottle with a different label. Im sure someone on here will argue with me and the Febi company again. I was ordered to get this specific fluid for my car when I changed out the rear struts with my friend who is a mercedes Master Tech.

of the vehicle matches the one on the bottle. I believe it was the 99 and older that used the other hydraulic fluid they put in your car. It has a separate tank from the power steering. This cause a bunch of confusion and if you dont check it carefully or just assume you will end up with the wrong stuff. The pumps call for special lubricants because they use different metals and yada yada.... mercedes

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 Warning Rotted pipes and fluid lines

A warning to everyone Check your metal pipes and fluid lines for rust rot replacing any before they leak and leave you stranded. MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Fluids

Hi All Recently purchased a 2002 ML320 with 98 original km and I must say so far I am not only very impressed with the vehicle. Also very happy to be back on this site. As I am very anal about my vehicles the first thing I want to do is change ALL fluids in the truck. Namely oil coolant trans etc etc Wanted to get some feedback from you all on which fluids you all prefer etc. or what seems to work for the W163. Would prefer to stick with Mobile 1 for oil.. Would appreciate the feedback thanks.

Well this has been a mixed bag so far.. Yes the spec oil is 0W40 Mobil 1 in addition to the low viscosity for startup (small oil galleys in the black and head) has a higher anti-sludge chemistry. Yes MB dealers do use off-spec oil because 0W40 is not available in bulk drums and available in qts only. Spot-on correct fill amount with filter change is 8.5 qts (not 8 as mentioned). OE filter is Mann polyester

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Leak from the unit in front of the power steering reservoir

Hello guys I just saw today I have a leak from the reservoir that sits in front of the power steering reservoir. More specific from the valve looking thing that is angled. The cap on it its cracked in 2 places. Can that cap be replaced by itself What exactly does this reservoir do Thanks.

After messing around with it I see that is the ABC reservoir and the thingy I was talking about is the dipstick for the fluid. I had never realized that was a dipstick. I thought you only use the power steering reservoir to check the fluid for both the ABC and power steering. Are you actually supposed to check the ABC fluid level via that dipstick on the front tank
