MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E Bi-Turbo Diesel Engines...

Greetings to all... I am seeking knowledge from those of you who have had experiences with old versus new diesel turbo engines as this appears to be the future increasing outputpower from smaller engines (e.g. four cylinders) outfitted with bi-turbos...hence better sustained dual-staged capacity and mpg. I owned a 2012 E-350 BT briefly and have no other experience with modern-day diesel (turbos) which

content within gasoline will vary by up to 15%. You will net fewer MPGs with more ethanol content. Whereas diesel is only capable of being bio-blended. Bio-blend fuel is a concern when it reaches more than 20% of fuel content because it does tend to create problems in cold weather and clog diesel particulate filters (dpf). Illinois is the only state that has fuel which exceeds 5% bio-blend and mercedes-benz

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G Comparing Engines Gas vs Diesel

Let me start of by saying that Ive never owned anything but mercedes diesels. I suppose that makes me prejudice. The only options that I have with the G-class are gas engines. I know that the GÂs are made for 1000000 miles but how about the engines What should I expect I want to compare what other people have experienced with both Gas and diesel models. How many miles have you put on your G (or other

The diesel engine is hard to beat as you know. My 1985 300 GD is superior in my opinion to the gasoline engine both from the durability and low maintenance. I only can guess that the G 500 suffers the same weak points of any gasoline engine with high miles. No one has put 10000 on one that I have read about. A 280 GE at 120000 needs a top end overhaul valve guides etc etc. The electronic seem to be

Chuck I was looking intently at buying a 463 diesel Gwagen over the 4 months and finally decided to go with gas. The primary reason was that the cost of a 463 diesel truck is rather high in the US because of their rarity. Norm Keiser wants 35K for a early 90s 300GD and over 50K for the turbo. I sat down one night and figured out the cost difference between buying a diesel and a cheaper gas engined

I have been driving and servicing mercedes diesels for around 25 years. 621 615 617 motors (turbo and non) in sedans and wagons. If properly maintained I think they will outlast any MB gas motor and have lower operating costs. Rebuild costs are similar. The cost of Mahle pistons is unpleasant. I have run MB gas motors as well and the maintenance and operating costs are higher. I have no experiance

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E III 211 Diesel Particulate Filter question and engine oils

Doing a little reading and stubpled uppon a few articles trashing the v6 blute engine due to diesle particulate filters. Is this really a 5k part httpwww.benzworld.orgforumsw211...ode-p242f.html My understanding is that the mobil 1 5w40 esp m or the 5w30 oil needs to be used because it collects more soot so the particulat filter does not get clogged. I also read about the particluate fiter regenerting.

indication. Also several mechancis I have spoken strongly beleive that one must stick with one oil durring the cars lifespan unless its starts consuming then get a heavier oil. Is there any thruth to this For exmaple if a bluetec owner were to switch form the 5w30 esp to the 5w40 esp m oils with an engine at 100k miles. ONLY user Synthetic 229.51 or 229.52 Spec oil in the diesels as specified by mercedes.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G 461 Is it possible to mount an old MB diesel engine on a w461-3

Im thinking on mounting the old GD300 engine on a new W461. Anybody knows if its possible What could be on your opinion the best non-electronics MB compatible diesel engine Thank You.

Davebr br I am not certain however the folks at Europa noted that it was rare because it is a diesel Cabrio. I bought it from the original owner who bought it new in 1980. This G has lived in this community for 22 years. br br As for turbo-charging the old five cylinder diesel engine this is not the best thing to do. I have a friend in Portland who did this to his 1984 300GD which he brought home new from Germany and after years of driving the old naturally aspired diesel thought this was a great idea. (He is an engineer) It ran for a while but tended to heat up when pressed hard. One day on his way to California in high ambiant temptures climbing a long hill at significant speed and 88000 miles on the clock he melted a piston. He rebuilt the engine and did this again this time the engine lasted only 20000 miles. The next step was to put in a whole new long block (6500US)of the later diesel model (617.9505152) . This completely fixed the situation and he then loved his G once again. I think this is the solution to most cries for more power. I would resist putting a 2.5 diesel engine in anything let alone a GWagen. They are a very week engine compared to the old 617s. The pistons are too short and seem to wear out the cylinder walls when pushed hard under pressure. The older diesels have long skirited pistons which have a lot more support when under a load. I know very little about the 270 and 290 engines however it seems as though they might represent a return to greatness for mercedes diesels. Hope sobr br Guess I am a wee bit opinionated todaybr br br br br br

Yes the period from about 1979 or so through 1985 the 300D sedans wagons and coupes (W123)used this engine as did the W126 from about 1979 (W125) perhaps slightly earlier than that. The 1985 models had a carbon exhaust trap installed espically because of California rules. This really took mercedes out of the diesel business for a while since the trap caused problems. From 1986 or so onward Merecedes six cylinder diesels were not very good. Time hopefully have changed again. br br

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G Diesel Engine - Rough Idle -

I asked this question in this forum in the past and some suggested me to check the glow plugs and the glow plug relay. Since its getting worse I took the truck to the local garage and asked them to check them. They found the plugs and the really are fine and could not think of any other reasons. Once again the engine starts fine even when the temperature is low but it takes quite a while before the idle gets smooth. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Best regards Tomo

not change with as the engine heats up but I have heard of this happening. These too can be replaced but you need a special tool to remove them after you remove the injector. There is also a tool for cleaning these since they can affect the spray pattern too. Oh if your valve adjustment is off you should correct it fairly quiickly however diesels do not burn exhaust valves as easily as petrolbenzinegsoline

Thank you Thomas for your help. 1. If you are not using a high quality injector cleaner (Amsoil makes a great one) made for diesels try this. I recently had the fuel line cleaned with a Bilstein carbon cleaning machine. After the carbon cleaning the rough idle had disappeared but it developed worse than before after a week or so. And it seems that there are more fuel consumption than before. Did the

Quote ....Is it hard to replace a timing chain just like disassembling everything.... I cant speak for the diesel but on the M110 engine in my 280GE the workshop manual shows a method that I thought was nothing short of ingenious. Maybe this is possible on your diesel. Chain tensioner assembly is removed from the side of the head and the cam cover is removed before starting the procedure. The new timing

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS C I 202 om601 diesel engine into c280

Hello does a om 601 diesel engine fit into a c280 I am asking because there is a local c 280 for sale with a 4cylinder diesel 87 mercedes diesel engine. I guess it is probably a om 601 diesel engine. Would a om 601 diesel engine fit in the c280. The owner says the computer malfunctioned on the c280 and it was cheaper to fit in a diesel engine 2000 dollars than to fix the computer and put it in a new ignition. Does this sound likely

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E III 211 Gasoline in Diesel Engine

What would happen if gasoline is pumped into 06CDI. Family member in a emergency pumped about 14 tank of gasoline into a tank that had about 3 gallons of diesel in it. Instead of pushing the car to a location to have it towed he started it and drove about 100 ft. Car is sitting at the dealership at this point after having it towed. So question is 1. What kind of damage is he looking at. 2. What does he need to have done to avoid any issue. 3. Does this void the warranty 4. Is this a big repair

More than likely no damage occured. Heavier lighter is meaningless when comparing diesel to gasoline. What happened and why the engine died was cetane suppression. Gasoline is formulated to resist autoignition under heat and pressure hence the rating octane. diesel on the other hand is formulated to increase the ease at which the fuel will autoignite under heat and pressure (remember diesels dont use

After he gets it back have him put 16oz of Power Service just to offset any residual gasoline (increases the cetane and the lubricity) again the CDI fuel system is more tolerant to lower lubricity than the older style plunger roller systems. diesel benz

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W164 Diesel vs Gas engine durability.

I was thinking of buying the ML 07 CDI for my wife because she hates having to fill up the tank. I was curious if people thought the diesel engines might be more durable than the gas ones. I know typically diesel engines last much longer but as I understand it these new mercedes diesels are complicated and cannot run biodiesel.

The 3.0L turbo diesel in the ML320 can only sip diesel with up to 5% biodiesel in it. Some states mandate up to 10% of biodiesel being used in the diesel fuel which can create long term problems. But as far as gas vs diesel engine reliability I wouldnt pick one over the other. Being a benz I wouldnt worry about engine reliability to begin with.

ULS is ultra-low sulphur a result of the refining process. Biodiesel is diesel to which ethanol has been added. So no they are not directly connected. On the other hand I dont think anybody puts 10% ethanol into anything except ultra-low sulphur diesel so they are connected indirectly. I didnt realize that 10% biodiesel was generally available yet. I agree with Yazovets that I wouldnt worry about engine

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E II 210 E 300 diesel engine noise

Hi I just bought a 97 E300 diesel that has 197000 on it and has ben run on bio diesel for the last 100K or so. I plan on running it on bio also. It is a non-turbo and had a slight knock in the top of the engine that sounds like a rod bearing but the sound is coming from the valve train. The knock goes away under load and is most pronounced when you hold the throttle at a high idle with no load on the

Thanks for the thought its a little late for a video I have the head ready to come off LOL. There are not may diesel mercedes owners near me that is why I was throwing this out here. I am familiar with diesel noise but this is out of the norm of a regular fuel rattle. I almost think it is injection timing but it runs too good. I took it on a 500 mile trip at 75 mph average and got just of 30mpg which

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W164 Dealer using Mobil 1 0w-40 in Diesel engines

Ok Ive been reading about the MB specified oil to use in my wifes 2008 ML 320CDI. She needed to add oil to her car so I went to the dealer to pick up the Mobil-1 ESP Formula M oil - the MB specified 229.51 oil. The MB parts department did not have the ESP oil and said they only use Mobil 1 0w-40 in ALL their MBs including the diesels. So I have been getting oil changes at the dealer for years with

Here are the details if my car W210 E300 diesel 95 engine 606912 02 003161 If im doing it wrong how can i know the proper oil and MB specs for the engine oil Thanks a lot Diamond

Glad Diamond you finally got the answer you wanted. However for future referral let me point the changes. The 15W40 was likely applied to the engine when the car was design and mercedes had no own oil classifications. Now the newer test confirm it complies with MB 228.3 what makes it allowable oil for your engine. Than in last few years much better oils hit the market and as I quoted above those are

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W164 Are diesel engines bad for short distances

Im considering a new ML320 for my wife but Ive read in some threads that diesel engines dont do well in short distances. My wife works about 10 minutes away from our home and will likely put on less than 10000 kilometres a year. From a cost perspective it seems its better for us to save the 2000 and buy the ML350. Any feedback would be appreciated.

We have an ML320 CDI - 2008 and it is fine for short trips as well as long trips. One thought is the longevity of diesel vs gas. Around our area right now diesel is cheaper than regular gas which makes diesel a lot cheaper than premium gas that is used in the gas M-class. Our diesel replaced a gas ML320 and we are experiencing about a 45% increase in fuel economy. Jim W.

I think if you were comparing the diesel engine to a hybrid engine you would find the diesel doesnt perform as well mileage wise. However comparing diesel to gas the diesel will still get you a 25%-40% improvement on mileage depending on driving style in the city. These are heavy vehicles so the extra torque of the diesel engines are better at getting you moving from a stop. In my opinion with a premium of only 2000 the diesel offers a more satisfying ride.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W164 Diesel additives for CDI engines

I have looked through the manual of my 08 ML230 CDI. It does not mention diesel fuel additives at all. For the gas engines additives are discussed. I know that during winter and periodically my MB dealer used to put in diesel conditioner at certain intervals on my diesel auto. That was of course with the old high sulfur fuel. Does anyone know if any diesel additives are recommended or discouraged in the new generation of CDI engines Thx in advance.....

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G Still searching for a diesel engine

Hi everyone im still looking for which diesel engine should i fit in my 280 GE which would be the best option a sedans 617 a 617a or a 603 maybe.Does anybody knows Why MB didnt use de 617a turbo on the 460 while the sedans were using them some years before and Can some one tell me how its 617A performs on its 460 thanks....

I have the 617A transplant in my G. I love the power and the torque. It is a great every day driver. The 617A diesels were the life blood of the mercedes fleet in the 80s. diesels made up 80% of mercedes sales back then. I had one that had 450000 miles on it and a guy bought from me for the same price I payed for it just for the novelty of it. The Turbo gives you more power and is fun to drive. I cruise on the interstate between 70-85 mph. There are quite a few around as well. Mark

Just left restaurant with family tonight. The car wouldnt start right a way for 4 seconds. Kept chugging so I turn off key and turn on again and started right up. Could smell diesel in the cabin. No problem accelerating while entering freeway. The smell is mostly all gone while driving for next 20 minutes. Drove up on slight hilly road to garage and parked. Smoke started to come out under the hood.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W164 Will ML Diesel engine become louder over time

I notice the 2008 ML320 CDI has a very quiet engine. When idle it is almost as quiet as the gasoline is. (even quieter in the cabin) Is this just because the engine is very new (less than 2 yr) or these newer diesel engine are indeed designed & made to be quieter I am trying to find out if MLs diesel engine will become a loud with strong vibration down the road say 5 yrs later. if anyone can shed some light I would greatly appreciate it.

And if you plan to enstall a turbo on the 300 make certain the engine started life as a turbo charged diesel. These early engines are not designed for turbos either unless it is the 617.952. The 617.912 is non-turbo charged and unable to manage the extra boost especially if used at high speeds in hot weather under constant loads etc. This is particularly true of the AirResearch turbos that were used
