NISSAN MAXIMA Changing transmission oil and filter

Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone has a step by step procedure of how to properly change the transmission oil on a 1997 nissan maxima I cant seem to locate the oil filter or the drain plug and Im hoping someone cal help me Thanks

maxvq wrote Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone has a step by step procedure of how to properly change the transmission oil on a 1997 nissan maxima I cant seem to locate the oil filter or the drain plug and Im hoping someone cal help me Thanks With most transmissions you must drop the pan to change the fluid. Often there is a filter located inside there. There is no filter like you would find for

There should be a plug located on the bottom of the trans pan. This will only drain about 3 to 4 QTS of fluid. Check your book on how much it holds. The trans filter is a metal screen and is a bugger to get out and clean. You can have a flush done at a dealer that uses genuine nissan fluid or other shops do it too for about 125.00. I would have it flushed so you can get all the fluid changed. Or another

NISSAN MAXIMA Transmission Oil LEAK SERIOUS OR NOT

HI everyone. I have a question I have a 98 Infiniti I30 t. it is around 17k but the engine is very quiet. Few months ago i didnt drive my I30 for couple of weeks but when I drove it again I realize some oil was leaking. I found out that those are transmission oil. I see a pattern that when I drive it everyday it wont leak a bit(ground is dry). but when I leave it untouch it leaks a little. the longer

If the leak is coming from the pan gasket its not a big deal to replace. If the leak is coming from one of the axle seals then the axle needs to be removed before the seal can be replaced. - Scott

NISSAN MAXIMA New (used) Motor and Transmission Installed

Ive been nursing my leaking head gasket for about 300 miles now and the transmission has been slipping for ages. I had been checking out my options on httpwww.car-parts.com but everything was either too high priced too high mileage or just too far away. So I checked out this company that Garret (big thanks)suggested LKQ. Turns out the have a location in Indiana. I checked their inventory and found

Sunday when we were installing the new transmission axle seals. The passenger side went fine but when it came time to install the driver side seal we noticed a problem. The yard had actually sent me a VLSD auto trans so the seal and axle were different. We proceeded to install the new motor and trans into the car and get the wiring and hoses all hooked up. Monday morning I called the two biggest nissan

NISSAN MAXIMA Maxima transmission - somtimes does not shift from gear 1 to 2

I have a 2001 maxima that has a transmission problem. Sometimes it does not go to gear 2 from 1 so it stays in one and revs high if you push down the pedal (just like driving a manual car just on gear 1). If it happens I would just put of the engine for a minute or 2 and start and its ok. I notice this happens more often when the car is stressed e.g in traffic higher tempratures... I have used the

any drain and refill. Run the engine for 100 seconds while shifting gears stop engine then drain fluid. Add the exact amount of fluid that was drained. Repeat this process 3-4 times. At the end of the drain and refill sequence add a bottle of LubeGard Red ATF Protectant. Make sure you dont underover fill the transmission fluid. For the pan drop and drain and refill you may need 15 quarts of nissan

NISSAN MAXIMA IV 97 Maxima transmission advice

My 97 SE currently has just over 310000 miles on it and has given more trouble in the last 10K than it did the 100K before that. Typical stuff though like a alternator power steering pump egroxygen sensor trouble (FINALLY got it solved and inspected) and replaced the exhaust under the car and muffler. Im not fussing and I couldnt have asked for better service thus far. I have had the trans fluid drained

It lowers transmission fluid temperatures (always a good thing) and can help smooth out shifting. Its noticeably smoothed downshifts and initial shifts into reverse (less delay) on my Pathfinder. A Magnefine in-line filter installed on the transmission cooler return line also might be a wise addition to help keep the fluid free of wear material and other debris. I believe a 38 one will fit your maximas

NISSAN MAXIMA Safe for a Transmission Service

For a while now (cold NJ winters) whenever I start my car in the morning the shifting can be a bit weird as in it kinda pushes the car forward and flares slips a little until it is warm. It also will hold RPMs high when doing 12 throttle acceleration and kinda jerk into gear unless I have been driving it for a long time. When I went to the dealer for a part a technician asked me about my car (asked

cooler return line hose. Any Infiniti dealer will be able to print out the entire service history of your vehicle (obviously that only applies for service done at dealerships). Also you can do a transmission cooler line exchange yourself if you would like to save some cash and if the weather permits. Here are the steps You will need 12 to 15 quarts of automatic transmission fluid preferably nissan

NISSAN MAXIMA IV 97 Maxima Transmission

I have a 97 maxima gle with 187000 miles on it. I am starting to get hard shiftsslips from 1st to 2nd gear. It all depends on how hard I hit the gas. If you slam the gas it will slip if you ease the gas it will shift hard. It also feels like the OD gear has a hard time staying in gear and when you let off the gas the car slightly jolts. You only really notice this if you pay attension. I didnt flush

Oh ya I always clean the pan. I even added a quart of Lucas oil transmission Stabilizer. No CEL. Only one it had was for the rear O2 a while back but that was fixed with a new sensor. I was playing more today had decided to do a minor tuneup of the motor. Just cleaned the throttle body and put a can of bg44k in the tank. Prior to starting work on it I tried a few things on the highway. I got up to

NISSAN MAXIMA When cold transmission shifts hard. Warmed up it is fine.

So I bought an i35 recently.I test drove it when the car had been driven home from the guys work so it was nice and warmed up. So I didnt notice the transmission issue since it only happens when it is cold. When cold the shift from 1 to 2 is hard. From 2 to 3 it seems to rev and slip into 3rd. 3rd to 4th is fine. When warmed up it seems to shift fine. I have drained and re-added fluid 4 time (16 quarts)

Okay dropped the pan cleaned it and the magnets with carb cleaner installed the new filter put in 4.5 new quarts of transmission fluid and sealed her back up with a new gasket. I soaked the pan bolts in purple cleaner while I replaced the filter they rinsed dried and applied permatex blue thread sealer and put the pan back on. I am still surprised at how black the tranny oil is. I have put 3 gallons

NISSAN MAXIMA I HELP put dirty oil in engine and now I have problems

I have an 03 I35 and was changing the oil today. Instead of putting in clean oil into the engine I accidently put in dirty oil (wasnt paying attention and picked up my old oil which I stupidly had put into an empty 5qt Castrol container) I watched the dirty oil go into the engine and paid no attention to it. I had a lot of stuff to do during the day and I left to run errands in my other car. About

NISSAN MAXIMA V CA33 Considering Buying a 0203 Maxima 6MT

Hey All Im in the market for a new car and have just started reading about the maxima. Im currently driving a 2000 Ford SVT Contour. For those unfamiliar its a great sports sedan. There were only about 10000 SVT Contours made from 98-2000. It is a great car for the money Check out httpwww.contour.org for more info. NISSAN MAXIMA Dont change dirty tranny fluid

I have a 02 maxima that was very regularly maintained except for transmission fluid changes. I recently went by a local nissan dealer to have 100k service quote written up for me. One of the things they mentioned was that the tranny oil was extremely dirty. The tranny oil has never been changed and Im sure it is in bad shape. The dealer wrote a tranny flush item on the quote for 170 but advised us

happened flushed it again within a a day or two and its perfect again. Gunk and gook builds up so when you put new tranny oil that loosens up and mixes again witht he new oil so now you still have partially bad stuff still in so you need to flush it out again and again til it runs just right....can be cost effective but think about the price for a tranny versus the price of the flushes 1999 nissan

The short question Can someone tell me which years of the I30 and maxima are the problem years for the apparently well-documented engine coil and sensor problems The back story Im taken with how much less a used I30 or a maxima can be had for relative to competing marques (e.g. Lexus Es300 or Toyota Avalon). The nissan products appear not to hold value so well but since theyre the equal of other brands

I think of the Infiniti as sensible shoes. I was just looking for a third car for around town since the daughter is now commuting to college (she gets the 1990 Olds). Im not expecting this thing to go to Nome and back. Car spent most of its life in Charlotte so the rust isnt bad (a big issue in Rochester NY). On the plus side Quiet Luxurious Comfortable. Tight (tracks straight and true w NO vibration at speeds well over the legal limit). Babe magnet (kidding). The previous owner just put 500.00 of new tires on it (didnt plan on selling). I a person who has driven Fords and Oldsmobiles and Chevettes get to say I think Ill take the Infiniti. On the down side The odometer is broken. I have reason to trust the seller who estimated 150K. Its stuck at 105K. I have to put premium gas in it No owners manual. You really fall into the car. It sits LOW (small potatoes). On the iffy side The transmission shifts a bit hard when its cold. Seems to soften up after the first time through the gears. I havent changed the transmission fluid yet. The car surges EVER so slightly under acceleration. Fine at speed and the surge is barely noticable but its rhythmic and noticable. I need to check and see if its reflected in the tach. Im running Chevrons fuel system cleaner right now and will then change the oil and tranny fluid. Overall Im pleased. Any advice is welcome Welcome to NICO Congrats on the purchase. I would first of all look into getting a used cluster from a salvage yard maybe one close to 150K mi Second of all you dont need a stinking owners manual even though they can be found on eBay for cheap. Heres the FSM (Factory Service Manual) . You cant really go wrong by changing the fluids especially the coolant given the fact that youre in NY. I would change the oilfilter trans fluidfilterpan gasket thermostat (no gasket needed use gray RTV) and coolant. Maybe look at the air filter and pull a spark plug or two. Also check out the gear bellows (rack and pinion boots) for possible leaking. VIP Forum Central Region Forum nissanINFINITI FSMs

NISSAN MAXIMA III J30 1990 Maxima coolant leak between engine and trans

Is there a freeze plug between the engine and transmission Its an automatic. Could there be a freeze plug behind the flexplate Coolant all of a sudden started pouring out from under just behind the oil pan where it meets the transmission Im gonna start pulling out the transmission tomorrow morning. Ill try to post up pics for future needs Modified by PapaTom at 1114 PM 4222009

Well after 5 hours of labor I got the transmission and engine out of the car. I discovered I also need the drivers side axle shaft. I found that out of 3 freeze plugs behind the flexplate one is severely corroded. Im replacing ALL of them. Since the engine is out and so many components are off Im also replacing the timing belt all acessory belts valve cover gaskets front motor mount oil pan gasket

NISSAN MAXIMA q45 motor in 4th gen max

is that possible MoD you have a q45 right is the motor a lot bigger or would it fit without cutting out fenders i cant find any info on a swap like that anywhere just like it was impossible... im thinking about the vh41de from the second gen...just because gas is expensive but seriously it should be a bit smaller than the vh45 and with 266hp would be plenty for the maxi - theres your 12s all motor

I will say... I know for sure the engine bay of the 3rd gen is a lot bigger than the Q45s BUT you would definitely have to convert to RWD to pull it off as the VH45 is very wide (which is where the maximas bay is bigger between the rails and strut towers). The 4th gens bay should be similar but again would definitely require RWD. On second thought... there are FWD transmissions that allow the engine

NISSAN MAXIMA I Just got a used 97 max (Auto). What can I do to improve MPG

Hey everyone i had a 97 automatic altima whos tranny has been going for awhile and would cost far too much for me to fix so i went and got me my first maxima. This is a 1997 maxima GLE automatic with about 126k miles on it (i got it for 2800). I just got the thing but so far it runs very well but then again im no mechanic. So i have done some research and i know the basic things i can do to increase

Make sure the engine can breathe well and properly lubricated as well as the transmission. That means fluid replacement. Cleancheck the entire air intake - air filter MAF sensor and Throttle Body. Replace air filter annually. Clean the MAF sensor with zero-residue contact cleaner or CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner. Clean the Throttle body with Carb Cleaner but DO NOT SPRAY DIRECTLY INTO THE BUTTERFLY VALVE

NISSAN MAXIMA Seafoam and Lucas stuff.

Hi. I used a bottle( not 12 bottle) of seafoam by vacuum line as a vidio where it was posted on NICO a month ago. It is still hard to start I think the reason is that the engine oil was changed immediately after I use the seafoam. So I plan to do one more seafoam. This time I will buy two bottle of seafoam to use through a vacuum line( a half bottle) add engine oil(a half bottle) and put gas tank(

I bought two bottles of lucas for a engine and transmission today. How much amount of lucas is put in each one of them to my car A whole or half bottle I knew the engine oil is needed to replace 4 and 14 qt. with filter. Besides the transmission fluid is 45qt when the fluid is drained from a transmission pan. And can I flush my engine by myself as a machenic does I mean that can I have a manual written

NISSAN MAXIMA IV Seal leaks and other problems on a 96 max

This is my first time posting and I would first like to say hello to everyone. I live in Rockland County NY (right above New York City) and am the owner of a 96 Max (base model) with 156K miles on it. I purchased it in 1996 with only 3K miles on it and it has mostly been problem free over the last 10 years. I normally change the oil everyone 3K and keep it maintained well. Ive had no major repairs

Those car care clinics are just a way for the dealer to try and drum-up service work. a)Nearly every oil pressure switch (look for a sensor going into the oil pan) Ive seen on any 4th gen seeps - normally not enough to drip. The crank seal could be replaced the same time the belts are replaced. The seal costs less than 10 from the dealer and the only additional labor required after removing the belts

NISSAN MAXIMA Rear main seal question

Does anyone know how hard it is to change the rear seal on a 2000 MaxI think mine may be leaking and my mechanic said it is a 10 to 12 hr. job to change it out is this true is it really that difficult
