VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Third Brake Light blinks constantly

Just bought a 03 Passat wgn. The third brake light blinks constantly when Im not on the brakes. Only does it when I have my headlights on at night(I think). When I am braking it will overide the blinking. It doesnt do it everytime just every few miniutes. Got any suggestions of what it may be

brake pedal sensor needs to be calibrated Just a guess but its free and easy to do.

bump

Does it blink at a constant speed or is it random

Im going with mis-calibrated brake light switch. Its mounted on an adjustable spring so get thee under the dashboard and start twiggling it until a friend standing behind the car says the light comes on only after you press the pedal about a quarter-inch with your hand.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 both brake lights gone

Hi all A friendly driver (rare thing what) told me the other day that both my brake lights were out (during the day). I checked and yeah they are. The lights that come on when the headlights are on still work but the actual brake lights (both left and rights) are both not lighting (although the high mounted third light still works). Im wondering if its a simple bulb problem or if theres some other

The car throwing a CEL is dependent on year. I know that my 98 Passat doesnt throw codes when a brake light is out. When the brake switch went out on our 2002 Golf the glow plug light came on. I would replace the bulbs first. If you have a test light you can check that the signal is making it to the back of the car. The reason that the tail lamps work with the headlights on is because they are dual filament bulbs. Essentially two bulbs in one. If the signal gets back there you can probably assume that the switch is working especially if your third brake light is working properly.

In a typical DC lighting system on a car the signal is sent

VOLKSWAGEN JETTA Brake Lights in the middle of the night..

06 Jetta. Once I park my Jetta for the day - about 3 hours later the rear brake lights pop on. To turn them off I just start the car pull forward then back and they go off for another 3 hours - then reappear. Getting tired of jump-starting my car if I do not get to it by the time its dead. Brand new battery by the way. Any help is appreciated. Other than that - the Jetta is a champion imo. This ad

Welcome to the forum. So it only the third brake light that stops on all night So its obviously getting a power feed from somewhere. You need to get your motor scanned for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them. Please tell us your car spec in your signature

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B6 Autohold is Designed Not To Have Your Brake Lights On

I have a 2010 Passat wagon and like the auto hold feature until I realized that when you remove your foot from the brake pedal your brake lights are not on and this also happens at night when you have your lights on. This auto hold feature should keep your brake lights on until you press the accelerator but it is not designed that way. I understand that if someone hits you from behind its there fault

press the accelerator I to check my mirror when stopped but not everyone is this aware or easily distracted by conversation and kids. The suggestion that the LED brake lights are blinding and that is a reason why they are not on well what about most who are not using the feature. What I have found is most VW owners and dealership personal did not know the lights are not on. I think VW could be a third

Ive seen rear brake light covers from other cars adapted to fit and died to match the interior because these factory pieces are so flimsy..... just my .002 cents.... I gotta tell you the plastics in these cars are pretty shitty...just as bad in my volkswagen.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 No Brake lights

A nice gentleman pulled up besides us and informned us that my brake lights were out on my 2005 Passat. Got home without anybody giving us an enema and looked at fuses. No burnt ones except the cig lighter. The tail lights go on when turning on the lights but still no brake lights including the third light. I searched the forums and read about the brake assembly switch. They said it was an easy no

Right now Im at the diagnosis stage figuring out a method to troubleshoot and fix these errors. Heres what I know. My friend did a VCDS scan a year back and I had the N75 valve issue then. I ordered a new VAG replacement N75 (no upgrade made sure I got the right revision for a B5 1.8T) and I still have the error today. So that tells me something around the N75 is bad... wires or vaccuum hoses At this stage Im not sure what else could cause the fault code (i.e. a boost leak or bad wastegate) For the brake light switch I have a driver side taillight bulb out and my high-mounted 3rd brake light only has 1 LED out of the bunch working. Im guessing between the taillight and third brakelight I would see this fault code.

The faulty lights are not the cause of this. 00526 This can be ignored. See Special Notes 00526 - Ross-Tech Wiki 17956 Check wiring and connections (Open circuit) 17956P1548005448 - Ross-Tech Wiki You should replace the tail light bulb. If the third brake light has LEDs they could have bad solder joints re-solder them or replace LEDs if faulty (ensure correct polarity) if it has bulbs replace them.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 front brake lights

for some reason when i hit the brake peddle my front low beam lights flash.i have checked the wiring and tried a few other possibilities.at first i thought it was due to going back to stock rear lights from my lezzas as the lezzas have 1 extra bulb.i have even tried disconecting my third brake light.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Stop - Brake Failure - ABS Light

I have a 2000 Passat 1.8. My ABS and Traction light has recently come on and I do not know why. I took it to a local shop and their diagnostic machine read a code error of B Positive Power Supply. Does anyone have any suggestions or information that could help me Thanks.

I have a 2000 Pasat V6 and have had the same STOP - brake Failure ABS light issue. I took my caar to VW and they diagnosed it as being my ABS Control Module needs to be replaced they said the electronics part of the module is not working. Good thing I have a third-party warranty covering the entire bill or else I would have had to pay about 1500 to repair. Ive heard of lots of people having issues with the ABS Conrol Modules failing in these cars.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Center brake light out. How to replace on b5 variant

My center (third) brake light is out. I searched but could not find any threads on how to replace the bulb for a wagon just the sedans. So any feedback would be helpful. My main issue is trying to get the trim panels off of the rear lift gate to get to the housing(s). I see two phillips screws on each side but after I remove them I cant seem to pop off the trim Thanks in advance for your feedback

MERCEDES BENZ 124 124 Third brake light removal

Hello I removed the third brake light to change the bulb and apparently the Florida sun has not been very kind. It fell apart in my hand. I glued it back together as best as I could and figured Id get one on E-bay eventually (the saddle colour is not very common) the dealer wants 85. Anyhow when I went to replace the sadly glued light the base disintegrated as well. I do not see how to remove the base

I appreciate that but I didnt see any instructions. For my volkswagen Bus there is the Robert Bentley service book that explains in great detail how to do everything on my car etc. Is there a similar book for the W124.. And Im used to being in uncomfortable positions working on a German car and cursing the engineers who designed it that way. -) Quote Originally Posted by Clarkz71 You may get them off

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Brake Light Fuse keeps blowing

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 No Turn signals no heat dim headlights parking brake warning light beeping

Driving home today I found on my 2003 Passat I had very dim headlights no turn signals no heat and parking brake warning light was going off even though parking brake was disengaged Are these all on one fuse Also where is fuse box located What else might it be Thanks for any help

You pull the fuse panel and remove two 10mm bolts. Then theres like two more boltsscrews holding the lower dash one on either side of the steering wheel. Get into the footwell and you will see them. A third I believe is lower along the center console. After you pull that down you can replace the relay. Of course that wont help you if its the ignition switch thats bad. That can be replaced without pulling the steering wheel. Pretty easy.

VOLKSWAGEN JETTA Trunk and Plate Light Power

My 2000 Jetta doesnt seem to be getting any power to the trunk lid. The license plate lights the third brake light on the spoiler and the power trunk unlock dont work. I took it to a mechanic that isnt that familiar with the electrical of that model and he tested the box on the trunk and there was no power to it. There is power to the other brake lights however. When we push the trunk release we hear

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 no tail lights

Ive been searching around for a few hrs and havent come across anyone with this kind of problem.(the forum wont take searches with no and out) I got stopped the other day by a guy saying my tail lights were out. Today i checked them out and they looked ok so i check the fuses for any light. All were ok. I ran to the car part store and bought new tail lights just in case and cleaned the contacts in

the drivers seat and start the car. Have him switch ON only the headlights (and stay off the brake peddle). Walk around the car and note which lights are working and which are not (front and back). Check license plate lights. Next have him switch the headlights OFF and then hold the brake peddle down. Walk around the car and note which lights are working and which are not (front and back). VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B6 New Hella LED upgrade rear lights for B6 saloon

I am not sure if B6 saloon owners are already aware of this newly released product from Hella. I dont have prices but they say the lights will be available from Jan 2006 although I am not sure which market this relates to. Just as standard series lights the Upgrade combination rearlights of the current VW models Golf Plus and Passat saloon have a two-part design. When they are switched off the observer

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B6 D.I.Y red door courtesy lights

Ive just finished fitting the all show no go red lenses in the front doors of my B6 with light using a cheap universal third brake light. One of these brake lights provided me with enough to do three of the four lenses using a row of 8 l.e.d.s per lens. My friend has the stunt double of my car so 2 more brake lights later we should have both cars done.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Cant get tail light to work properly

Got a 2001 Passat with a screwy electrical problem. Right rear running light doesnt work 2nd filament illuminates fine when brake is pressed. - All other lights work fine so it cant be the fuse. - When I move the right bulb to the left side both filaments work normally. - When I move the left bulb to the right side only the brake filament works properly. So its not the bulb. - With the lights on and

The third contact point is the side of the bulb base touching the metal on the side of the socket hole. Since your brake light works normally on that side youve probably got good ground (third contact point). But Id double check that all three look clean. If you meter from side contact to parking light contact and get 12 volts your fuse & harness are good. If that same bulb works flawlessly in the

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B6 2006 2.0T door lights not working

Hi can anyone provide any advice I recently got a B6 2.0T i have notice that when i open the doors none of the lights in the door come on. I had this feature on my old B5 and i thought this would be the same can anyone confirm whether this feature was still on the B6 or only on the top end one

The B6 in the US did not have that feature the things that look like lights in the door are actually just reflectors. If you wanted to you can either buy the courtsesy lights for the doors from the VW dealer along with some wires and then it would need to be recoded with Vagcom. Another option is to buy a generic third brake light and install some of those LEDs in the reflector you already have. There is a DIY for that somewhere either on here or VWVortex.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Deadly Brakes 04 Passat V6 FWD GLX

Help [I would paste a smile here but they are not working for me either] Im getting different stories from mechanics and have already had a 3700 (my car) accident because the person ahead panic stopped and my car couldnt. Original brakes 50000 miles. Refuses to brake any faster for a panic stop but is normal for an easy stop. This has been going on for two years and Im scared to drive it anymore .

One mechanic had the brake fluid moisture meter. Dont think it is the booster- I can put 250 lbs of pressure on the pedal and it is no different from putting 5. I read the article about bedding in so evidently the deposit on the rotors can be normal up to a point. A third garage (racing) says if you are too light on the brakes all of the time it will glaze up the pads they reccomend hard braking once

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B6 Who needs xmas lights when you have a Passat Dashboard
